2009 Season Outlook
The Formula Renault UK Championship is the top junior single seater racing category in the UK. In 2009, despite the current economic climate, there is a very full grid of 26 cars and the field comprises a number of good, experienced second year drivers returning to the series as well as a several high class rookies, all of whom have done a lot of testing. As a result, many believe this will be the most competitive Championship for many years. The Championship has produced a number of current F1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Heikki Kovalainen.
Will is well prepared for his rookie season, with his preparatory races in the UK Winter Series, the Portugese Winter Series and the Toyota Racing Series in New Zealand all having given him useful experience. In addition, he has shown well in the pre-season official tests but nevertheless, such is the level of competition in this year’s Championship, a top 6 result in the overall Championship and taking the Graduate Cup (for the top year one rookie driver) are his objectives.
Will commented, “I have always set out to win in everything I have done in racing and my aims for this year are no different. Realistically, given the comparative experience of my rivals, I’ll be aiming for race wins in the latter races in the year and if I can take the Graduate Cup and finish in the top 6 or better in the overall Championship then I’ll be satisfied”.
